United States President Donald Trump recently raised concerns about Tesla’s plans to potentially build a factory in India, citing US trade concerns.

Trump pointed out that India’s tariffs on cars are among the highest in the world.

Trump expressed that if Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk were to follow through with building a factory in India, it would be “unfair” to the US.

He said, “Now, if he built the factory in India, that’s okay, but that’s unfair to us. It’s very unfair.”

Currently, India’s import taxes on electric vehicles (EVs) can reach up to 100%.

However, a new policy introduced in March reduces this rate to 15% for carmakers investing at least US$500 million to build manufacturing facilities in India.
