Truecaller tackles AI voice cloning with new tech
Truecaller AB, a Swedish app developer, has launched new technology to address the growing issue of AI-generated voice cloning used by scammers.
Its caller ID and spam-blocking app now analyzes callers’ voices to identify computer-generated imitations.
Truecaller is also using technology from its 2022 acquisition of CallHero Ltd. to enhance its anti-cloning efforts and is exploring further AI acquisitions.
Voice cloning scams, which deceive victims into sharing sensitive information or making transactions, have increased due to the rise of generative AI tools.
India, which accounts for 70% of Truecaller’s revenue, has experienced a rise in digital crime as mobile phone usage expands.
The company has 433 million monthly active users globally and expects 2024 revenue of around 1.85 billions krona (US$167 million).
