Toyota completes first phase of futuristic ‘Woven City’
Toyota Motor Corporation has completed the first phase of its “Woven City,” a prototype urban area in Japan, designed to integrate advanced technologies.
The site spans over 700,000 square meters and aims to explore new urban living concepts.
Construction began in 2021, and the area features distinct roads for autonomous vehicles, various modes of transportation, and pedestrians.
An underground passageway is included for logistics such as deliveries and waste collection.
“Woven city” will serve as a testing ground for digital technologies, autonomous vehicles, and robots in a controlled environment. Planned safety evaluations will occur across multiple transport modes.
Toyota anticipates that approximately 360 residents, including employees and their families, will begin moving into the city later this year.
The company plans to eventually expand the population to around 2,000 residents.
