Sony’s finance chief Hiroki Totoki named CEO
Sony Group has announced that Hiroki Totoki will become CEO on April 1, succeeding Kenichiro Yoshida, who will remain as chairman.
Totoki, currently president, previously served as finance chief and oversaw Sony’s gaming division, which includes the PlayStation 5.
Alongside his promotion, Lin Tao will become Sony’s first female chief financial officer (CFO), and Hideaki Nishino will lead the gaming division.
Sony shares rose 3.6% following the announcement, outpacing the Tokyo market’s 0.9% gain.
Totoki has focused on growth strategies in intellectual property and semiconductors.
Sony’s gaming division gained attention in 2022 with its US$3.6 billion Bungie acquisition, and upcoming titles like Ghost of Yotei and Grand Theft Auto VI are expected to boost appeal.
Sony continues expanding its entertainment sector, distancing itself from its traditional electronics identity.
