Sony’s Q3 profit soars 73%, boosted by PS5 sales
Sony reported a 73% rise in operating profit for the July-September quarter, mainly driven by strong performance in its game and network segments.
The company’s profit reached 455.1 billion yen (US$3 billion), up from 263 billion yen (US$1.73 billion) during the same period last year, boosted by robust image sensor sales.
The game and network services sector, contributing over a third of Sony’s revenues, saw its profits surge to 138.8 billion yen (US$911.5 million).
Sony President Hiroki Totoki attributed the profit increase partly to the shift from PS4 to PS5. This transition lifted software sales significantly.
