Shanghai-based AgiBot unveils general embodied AI for robots
On March 10, 2025, Chinese robotics firm AgiBot introduced Genie Operator-1, its first general embodied AI model, designed to enhance accessibility in embodied robotic intelligence.
The model is built on the Vision-Language-Latent-Action (ViLLA) framework, integrating a vision-language model for scene perception and language understanding with expert systems for motion planning and execution. It is trained on human operation videos and real-world robotics data.
AgiBot began mass-producing general-purpose humanoid robots in December 2024, reaching its 1,000th unit milestone by January 2025.
Co-founded in February 2023 by Peng Zhihui, a former Huawei researcher, AgiBot specializes in AI chips and algorithms.
The company is backed by Hillhouse Ventures, CDH Investments, and HongShan Capital (formerly Sequoia China). Corporate investors include BYD, which holds a 2.51% stake, and iSoftStone with 1.41%.
