SEA AI startups secure $1.7b amid $60b global tech boom
Southeast Asia is seeing considerable investment from global tech companies like Nvidia and Microsoft, with an estimated US$60 billion directed towards cloud services and data centers in the coming years.
However, local AI startups are gaining limited benefits from this surge, securing only US$1.7 billion in venture funding in 2024, according to Preqin data.
In 2024, the United States attracted $68.5 billion in AI investments, while China received $11 billion.
In comparison, Southeast Asia accounted for just 122 AI funding deals, significantly fewer than the 1,845 deals seen in the wider Asia-Pacific region.
