Samsung nominates key leaders to strengthen chip business

Samsung Electronics has nominated Jun Young-hyun, head of its semiconductor division, and Song Jai-hyuk, the company’s chief technology officer, for its board of directors.

This announcement is part of the company’s efforts to address challenges in its semiconductor sector.

The nominations also include Lee Hyuk-jae, a chip expert and professor at Seoul National University, as an external director.

Lee leads the university’s semiconductor research center.

This decision highlight Samsung’s goal to strengthen its position in the chip business amid intensified competition.

Recently, the company lost ground in the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chip market, where SK Hynix has emerged as a leading competitor due to demand from Nvidia’s AI graphics processing units.

The proposed nominees are set for approval at Samsung’s shareholders’ meeting on March 19.
