Sam Altman to visit Abu Dhabi for MGX funding: sources

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, is visiting the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this week to discuss potential funding with the Abu Dhabi-based investment group MGX, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The visit occurs as OpenAI encounters competition from China’s DeepSeek, which offers a low-cost alternative to its AI technologies.

Previously, MGX participated in OpenAI’s US$6.6 billion funding round that concluded in October.

Altman’s trip follows an announcement regarding a partnership with Japan’s SoftBank, aimed at advancing AI services.
