Steven Adler, an AI researcher and safety officer at OpenAI, resigned due to concerns about the rapid pace of AI development.

Having worked at the company since March 2022, eight months before the launch of ChatGPT, he expressed worries about artificial general intelligence (AGI) potentially exceeding human intelligence.

Adler warned that the global race to achieve AGI is a “very risky gamble” and that urgency could compromise vital safety measures.

He also highlighted the challenges of AI alignment, emphasizing the difficulty of ensuring AI systems’ goals align with human values.

Despite OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’ assurance that the company aims to develop AGI for the benefit of humanity, Adler expressed hope that AI labs would adopt stronger safety regulations.

With increasing competition, such as the launch of DeepSeek by a Chinese startup, Adler stressed the need for collaboration to address AI risks.
