Qualcomm has announced the acquisition of MovianAI, the generative AI division of VinAI, part of Vietnam’s Vingroup ecosystem.

This move aims to enhance Qualcomm’s R&D in generative AI for smartphones, PCs, and software-defined vehicles.

Dr. Hung Bui, founder and CEO of VinAI, will join Qualcomm, bringing expertise in AI, machine learning, computer vision, and Natural Language Processing (NLP). He previously worked at Google DeepMind.

Jilei Hou, Qualcomm’s senior VP of engineering, highlighted the value of integrating VinAI’s talent to strengthen AI solutions across industries.

The deal also reinforces Qualcomm’s long-standing collaboration with Vietnam’s tech sector, supporting advancements in 5G and IoT.

Financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
