Pinduoduo hires ex-Baidu experts to build AI models
Chinese ecommerce company Pinduoduo has formed internal teams to develop large-scale recommendation models. These efforts are led by a former core member of Baidu’s AI team, with additional recruits from Baidu.
The models will be applied to price comparison systems, recommendations, advertising, search, and customer service.
Unlike Alibaba, ByteDance, Tencent, and Meituan, which have openly advanced in AI, Pinduoduo has remained low-profile until now.
In November 2023, it posted job openings for Natural Language Processing (NLP) engineers to explore AI in customer service, though insiders had downplayed its AI ambitions.
