US Navy bans DeepSeek over security risks

The United States Navy has banned the use of AI technology developed by the Chinese company DeepSeek due to security and ethical risks.

An email sent to Navy personnel on Jan. 26, explicitly prohibits using DeepSeek’s AI model for both work and personal purposes.

This directive aligns with the Navy’s Chief Information Officer’s policy regarding generative AI.

The warning raised concerns about the origin and functionality of DeepSeek’s newly introduced R1 model, noted for its open-source framework.

The Navy’s action reflects growing concerns in the US over AI technologies emerging from China.
