Musk sues OpenAI over profit shift, citing mission concerns
A federal court in the Northern District of California is set to hear arguments on Feb. 5 in a lawsuit filed by Elon Musk against OpenAI’s planned transition from a nonprofit to a for-profit entity.
Musk, a co-founder of OpenAI in 2015 who departed before its prominent growth, filed the lawsuit last year.
He claims the company’s shift towards a profit model undermines its initial mission to benefit humanity.
He has extended his complaint to include federal antitrust allegations. Musk requested the court block OpenAI’s restructuring plans.
In response, OpenAI argues that the restructuring is essential for attracting the capital needed to advance its AI models.
