Mobility platform Rapido warned over accessibility issues

The Delhi High Court has criticized ride-hailing platform Rapido for inadequate accessibility of its app for persons with disabilities, giving the company four months to fix the issues or risk suspension.

A visually impaired petitioner claimed the app fails to meet accessibility standards, prompting the Court to question Rapido’s compliance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.

The Court has summoned a Ministry of Road Transport and Highways official to explain efforts to enforce accessibility norms for ride-hailing apps.

An audit found 170 accessibility errors in Rapido’s app, with 81 classified as major failures under the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Level A.

Rapido acknowledged the issues and pledged updates.
