Microsoft plans to increase the price gap between its Office suite with Teams and its standalone Office product in response to antitrust scrutiny from the European Union, according to sources familiar with the situation.

This decision follows complaints from competitors regarding Microsoft’s bundling practices.

The concerns originated in 2020 when Slack, currently owned by Salesforce, accused Microsoft of unfairly bundling Teams with Office.

In 2023, Microsoft unbundled Teams from Office, allowing users to purchase Office without Teams for a price 2 euros (US$2.06) less than the bundled version.

Standalone Teams was priced at 5 euros (US$5.15) per month. The new pricing adjustments aim to enhance the competitiveness of rival products in the market.
