Microsoft and OpenAI are investigating whether individuals linked to Chinese AI startup DeepSeek accessed OpenAI’s AI model data without permission.

Microsoft’s security team flagged unusual activity last fall, suggesting DeepSeek may have extracted large amounts of data from OpenAI’s API, potentially violating its terms of service.

OpenAI has acknowledged increased attempts by Chinese entities to exploit US AI models but has not commented on the ongoing investigation.
