Meta warns of feature rollbacks after antitrust ruling in India
Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook and WhatsApp, may be required to withdraw certain features in India due to a directive from the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
The CCI prohibits WhatsApp from sharing user data with Meta for advertising purposes.
Meta has filed an appeal with the Indian tribunal against this ruling, issued in November 2024.
These restrictions could affect Meta’s ability to provide personalized ads on platforms like Facebook and Instagram in India, which has over 500 million WhatsApp users and more than 350 million Facebook users.
