Meta has disbanded its global diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) team, citing shifts in the US “legal and policy landscape,” according to vice president of human resources Janelle Gates.

Meta is no longer factoring diversity into hiring, training, or supplier selection and has ended US fact-checking policies while relaxing content moderation.

Previously, the company halted hiring targets for women and minorities, with Gates acknowledged that DEI had become a polarizing term.

A Meta spokesperson emphasized a focus on “cognitively diverse” teams, valuing varied skills and perspectives to foster innovation.
