Meta says US fact-check end doesn’t impact ads revenue
Meta’s decision to discontinue its fact-checking program in the US has not affected advertising revenue. This statement was made during Meta’s fourth-quarter 2024 earnings call on Jan. 29.
Chief financial officer Susan Li noted no significant changes in advertiser demand following updates to its content policy.
Meta remains committed to brand safety, using AI-powered tools to improve advertising performance.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg explained that the community notes system, which replaced traditional fact-checking, is a more effective tool for addressing misinformation.
He acknowledged that X (formerly Twitter) pioneered this approach and defended the change.
The end of the fact-checking program currently applies only to the US, and Meta has not announced plans to extend or alter the policy.
