Meta fined $263.5m in Europe over user data breach
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has been fined 251 million euros (US$263.5 million) by Ireland’s Data Protection Commission (DPC) due to a data breach that occurred six years ago.
The breach affected approximately 29 million Facebook accounts globally, including around 3 million in the European Union.
The DPC reported that Meta took action to address the breach shortly after it was identified.
