Meta eases political content rules, adds user controls
Meta announced on Tuesday that it will gradually allow political content back on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, following updates to its content moderation policies.
Since 2021, Meta had reduced political content in users’ feeds based on feedback favoring less political discourse. However, the restrictions were only applied to Instagram and Threads last year.
Meta’s new strategy will rank civic and political posts in feeds based on engagement metrics like likes and views.
The company will also enhance user controls, allowing individuals to adjust the amount of political content appears in their feeds.
New settings are expected on Facebook, complementing existing controls on Instagram and Threads.
