Representatives Darin LaHood (R-Ill.) and Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.) are leading the legislation.

They express worries about the potential for espionage.

LaHood said that DeepSeek, associated with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), may have the ability to collect and store data from US users for unclear purposes.

Gottheimer highlighted the risks of sensitive government and personal data being accessible to entities linked to the CCP.
