Japan’s Metaplanet invests $12.5m worth of bitcoin
Metaplanet, a Tokyo-listed investment firm, has acquired 150 bitcoin (BTC) for approximately US$12.5 million at an average price of US$83,508 per BTC.
This brings its total holdings to 3,200 BTC, purchased at a total cost of about US$266.2 million. Based on current market prices, these holdings are now valued at approximately US$265.9 million.
To fund more bitcoin purchases, Metaplanet raised 2 billion yen (US$13.3 million) through a bond issuance on the same day.
The firm has been accumulating BTC since adopting a bitcoin-focused strategy in April 2024, aiming to hold 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025 and 21,000 BTC by 2026.
