The Italian government has announced plans to develop a low-orbit satellite system for secure communications, according to Industry Minister Adolfo Urso.

This initiative is intended as a domestic alternative to existing satellite systems, including those provided by the United States-based SpaceX’s Starlink.

He said that the government aims to engage national stakeholders and has tasked the Italian Space Agency with conducting a feasibility study for the project.
