Instagram launches teen accounts for safety in South Korea
Instagram has launched its Teen Accounts feature in South Korea to improve protections for teenage users.
This initiative limits exposure to explicit content and restricts inappropriate interactions on the platform, following a global rollout that began in September.
In South Korea, teens over 14 can create their own accounts, which are set to private by default for users aged 14 to 18. Those under 17 require parental consent to switch to public.
Users aged 17 to 18 may change to public accounts without parental approval unless supervision is enabled.
Existing accounts for users under 17 will default to private, requiring guardian permission for any public status.
Other safeguards include limiting direct messages, tags, and mentions to users that teens follow.
