Indonesia fines Google $12m for unfair business practices
Indonesia’s antitrust agency has fined Google approximately 202 billion rupiah (US$12.37 million) for unfair business practices related to its Google Play Store payment system.
The investigation, initiated in 2022, examined claims that Google had used its market dominance to compel Indonesian app developers to use Google Pay Billing.
According to the agency, developers faced fees as high as 30% or risked having their apps removed from the platform.
This practice violates Indonesia’s anti-monopoly laws.
Google controls 93% of the market share in Indonesia, which has a population of 280 million and a growing digital economy, according to the agency’s findings.
