Former OpenAI scientist’s startup raises $1b, valued at $30b
Safe Superintelligence (SSI), an AI startup co-founded by former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, is raising over US$1 billion in funding, which values the company at more than US$30 billion.
The funding round is led by Greenoaks Capital Partners, based in San Francisco, which is contributing US$500 million.
The valuation marks a sharp increase from US$20 billion reported ten days earlier and is six times SSI’s mid-2024 valuation of US$5 billion.
SSI was co-founded by Sutskever, Daniel Levy, and Daniel Gross, with offices in Silicon Valley and Tel Aviv.
Sutskever aims to develop AI surpassing human intelligence while aligning with human interests, a stance that may differ from OpenAI’s Sam Altman.
