Flipkart shuts commerce unit ahead of planned IPO
Flipkart has announced the closure of Ans Commerce, a SaaS platform focused on direct-to-consumer services. Ans Commerce was acquired in 2022 to enhance Flipkart’s e-commerce capabilities.
Founded in 2017, Ans Commerce provided tools for digital storefronts and order fulfillment, serving brands like Razorpay, Arvind Fashions, and Unicommerce. Before shutting down, it reportedly fulfilled over 600,000 orders.
About 110 employees are impacted, with Flipkart offering internal opportunities, outplacement services, and severance packages.
Ans Commerce had raised US$2.2 million in a pre-series A round in 2021, backed by investors like Gokul Rajaram, Venture Catalysts, Kunal Shah, and Kunal Bahl.
Despite its funding and growth, it joins several Indian startups that have recently shut down.
The closure comes as Flipkart prepares for a public listing in the next 12 to 18 months. The company is streamlining operations, cutting costs, and restructuring leadership ahead of its IPO.
