The European Commission has issued a new request for information (RFI) to fast-fashion ecommerce platform Shein as part of its compliance oversight under the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA).

Shein has until Feb. 27 to respond to the request.

The latest RFI seeks internal documents and detailed information on risks related to illegal content and goods, transparency data on its recommender systems and access for researchers to study systemic risks.

Additionally, the Commission asks about measures taken to address consumer protection, public health, user wellbeing, and data protection.

Shein was designated as a Very Large Online Platform (VLOP) under the DSA in April 2024, placing it under stricter EU supervision.

This request follows concerns about the environmental and safety risks linked to low-cost ecommerce, including counterfeit or harmful products.

A Shein spokesperson said that the company is “working to promptly address” the Commission’s information request.
