Tech companies in the United States have voiced concerns to Vietnam’s government over a draft law that could tighten data protection regulations.

The legislation may restrict data transfers overseas, potentially hindering the growth of social media platforms and data centers.

The draft legislation is currently under parliamentary examination.

It seeks to grant authorities greater access to information and was advocated by the Ministry of Public Security, say both Vietnamese and foreign officials.
