Chinese AI start-up DeepSeek has temporarily paused activities this week for the Lunar New Year holiday.

Despite the break, the Hangzhou-based company has gained global attention due to its recent advancements in AI.

On Jan. 27, DeepSeek announced the release of its multimodal image generation model, Janus-Pro, which surpassed OpenAI’s DALL-E 3 and Stability AI’s Stable Diffusion in benchmark tests

DeepSeek’s headquarters, located in a building primarily occupied by finance industry tenants, remained quiet during the weeklong holiday. However, there was increased interest in the company, as security reported turning away uninvited guests.

The company’s rise has prompted discussions in Silicon Valley and Wall Street. US officials and industry leaders have commented on DeepSeek’s impact.

Despite the growing interest, DeepSeek has maintained a low profile and operates without a dedicated public relations team.
