University of Cambridge launches VR for public speaking practice
The University of Cambridge’s Immersive Technology Lab has launched a new free online platform to help individuals practice public speaking.
Developed by Dr. Chris Macdonald, the Virtual Reality Public Speaking platform aims to reduce the high costs and wait times associated with traditional therapies.
The system utilizes exposure therapy. It incorporates breathing techniques and eye movement practices to reduce fear responses during presentations.
Users can engage in speaking exercises within various virtual environments, from small classrooms to large arenas filled with spectators. There are optional distractions like flashing cameras and noise.
The platform has already attracted tens of thousands of users. Dr. Macdonald plans further studies with larger participant groups to enhance the evidence for its effectiveness.
