Apple to pay $95m settlement over Siri privacy violations
Apple has agreed to pay US$95 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging violations of user privacy by its Siri voice assistant.
The preliminary settlement has been filed in federal court in Oakland, California, and awaits approval from United States District Judge Jeffrey White.
The lawsuit contends that Siri unintentionally recorded conversations prompted by the “Hey, Siri” feature.
It also claims that these recordings were shared with third parties, including advertisers.
The plaintiffs cited examples where discussions about specific products, such as Air Jordan sneakers and Olive Garden restaurants, led to related advertisements.
