Apple has requested to join Google’s United States antitrust case, citing concerns over the tech giant’s reliance on Google to protect its billions of dollars in revenue-sharing agreements.

These agreements, stemming from making Google the default search engine on Safari, were crucial to Apple’s 2022 earnings.

Despite the uncertainty around these payments, Apple has said it will not develop its search engine and plans to summon witnesses.

The US Department of Justice aims to demonstrate that Google’s practices harm competition in the online search market, potentially leading to remedies such as the divestiture of Chrome and Android.

In response, Google has proposed easing some of its agreements with device makers, browser developers, and wireless carriers.

Google has not suggested ending its search-related ad revenue-sharing deals, while it declined to comment on the case.
