Apple exec calls Siri AI delays ‘ugly and embarrassing’

Apple is facing delays in its AI developments, particularly updates to Siri. Robby Walker, a senior director, called the situation “ugly and embarrassing,” citing quality issues and unclear launch timelines.

The delayed features aim to enhance Siri with personal data integration and improved app control. Initially promoted for the iPhone 16, these features currently function only 67% to 80% of the time.

Walker admitted the premature announcement contributed to the setbacks, and while the team targets an iOS 19 release next year, the timeline remains uncertain.

Internal criticism has emerged, with software head Craig Federighi reportedly commenting on performance issues.

Walker acknowledged employee burnout and disappointment but emphasized Apple’s focus on quality. He said that updates will be released only when they meet user expectations.

As competitors advance in AI, Apple Intelligence faces growing scrutiny, but the company remains committed to enhancing Siri’s capabilities despite ongoing challenges.
