Anthropic has launched the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open-source tool that allows AI assistants to access and integrate with multiple data sources efficiently.

The MCP offers a standard method for connecting AI systems to external resources, aiming to enhance their functionality and ease of use.

This differs from OpenAI’s “Work with Apps” feature, which is designed for specific app connections and currently in testing on Mac’s ChatGPT version.

In contrast, MCP is intended for universal application.
