Google has agreed to invest up to US$2 billion in Microsoft-backed Anthropic, a rival to ChatGPT maker OpenAI. The tech titan will initially plunk down US$500 million and then inject an additional US$1.5 billion over time.

With the deal, Google is looking to bolster its position against Microsoft as tech giants strive to incorporate AI into their applications.
