Amazon India removes referral fees to support small sellers
Amazon India will remove referral fees for over 12 million products priced below 300 rupee (US$3.51), starting Apr. 7. This applies to 135+ categories, including grocery, home decor, and apparel.
Previously, sellers paid a 2-4% fee per sale. The move aims to support small businesses.
Shipping rates have also been reduced, with national shipping fees for external fulfillment dropping to 65 rupee (US$0.76) from 77 rupee (US$0.90).
Weight handling fees for lightweight items under 1 kg are also lower, and sellers shipping multiple units can save up to 90% on additional units.
Amazon India has also updated its Renewed platform, discontinuing sales of externally refurbished products but keeping the service active.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) seized uncertified products from e-commerce warehouses, citing consumer safety concerns.
