In brief: EDBI joins $90m investment in voice startup Pindrop

Pindrop, a startup focused on voice security, today announced that it has closed US$90 million in series D funding led by Vitruvian Partners. Other new strategic investors include Allegion Ventures, Cross Creek, Dimension Data, Singapore-based EDBI, and Goldman Sachs. Existing investors CapitalG, IVP, Andreessen Horowitz, GV (formerly Google Ventures) and Citi Ventures also invested in the round.

Pindrop offers voice security and authentication tech for use in call centers, and is targeting a move into voice-activated connected devices. It protects over 200 million consumer accounts and claims to have prevented more than  US$350 million in voice-based fraud this year. The Atlanta-based startup also claims a three-year compound annual growth rate in revenue of 137 percent.

The fresh funds will enable Pindrop to boost its efforts in consumer internet of things and voice technology while also continuing to strengthen its “solutions for anti-fraud and authentication solutions for the global enterprise,” said co-founder Vijay Balasubramaniyan, who also serves as the startup’s CEO and chief technology officer.

EDBI is the investment arm of the Singapore government’s Economic Development Board. It will be assisting Pindrop’s expansion into Asia-Pacific markets.

“Our investment in Pindrop is in line with Singapore’s trusted position as both a leading global financial center in Asia and a development hub for new human-centric digital services,” said EDBI chief executive and president Chu Swee Yeok.
