UPDATE: Netease reports $377 million in game revenue for Q2, aims to have more Blizzard games out by year's end
UPDATE 2014-8-15: This article has been updated to correct Netease’s revenue figures, which we initially reported incorrectly.
Tencent may be the biggest player in the Middle Kingdom when it comes to games, but Netease is no slouch thanks to its partnership with Blizzard, and the company’s latest financial results prove it. In Q2 of 2014, Netease is reporting online games revenue of more than RMB 2.3 billion ($377 million), which represents 8% growth compared to the previous quarter.
Netease’s gaming operations are massively important to the company, as they make up around 80% of its total revenue. Q2’s strong results in gaming were buoyed by the success of Netease’s original games like Fantasy Westward Journey 2 and sales in the iPad version of Blizzard’s Hearthstone.

Additionally, in the company’s earnings call, CEO Ding Lei said that it is trying its best to release Diablo 3 and Heroes of the Storm‘s beta in China before the end of the year. He also said that the official Chinese version of Diablo 3, which has been significantly delayed over censorship requirements, will contain a “surprise” when it’s released in China, but that Netease won’t be sharing more about that before the game’s official release.
