Najin Black Sword coach joins Azubu TPA; strict and rigorous training ahead
We previously covered how the Azubu Taipei Assassins, the League of Legends Season 2 World Champions, would be hiring a Korean coach. Well, heโs here: say hello to Sim Sung-soo.
Sim Sung-soo was previously a gaming coach for South Koreaโs Najin Black Sword, which also happens to be the former home of current World Elite jungler, Actscene. In his interview, Sim Sung-soo gives a bit of insight on how he plans to change the former world champions.
Most interestingly, he mentions that mechanics wise, the Taiwan team is not so different from the top players in Korea, but that the teamwork side needs some work. Weโve translated a few more points from his interview:
As a first step, Sim Sung-soo will work with TPA to better their mentality. For professional players, their training should be rigorous and they should never have a casual attitude.
There is not a lot of difference mechanically between the TPA players and Korean players, but as a team, the weakness is apparently. More specifically, TPA lacks a long-term plan during the match. The team focuses too much on the present situation and does not have any goals set for 10 minutes later, 15 minutes laters, or even how the match should end.
TPA needs to improve their consistency and become a โrock-solidโ team. To help with this, the coach will work work on two points:
1) There needs to be increased communication between players. Communication should not stop once someone makes a small mistake.
2) Players must be aware of what they should be doing every second of every minute. This will allow players to focus on their task and not have their performance interrupted by mistakes or outside influence.
It seems like the Azubu Taipei Assassins have quite a bit of work to do. But if the team has a great showing in the SEA regional qualifiers and world championships, we can only imagine that the Korean hiring craze will continue to intensify.
