Xolo takes on Apple, Samsung with fingerprint sensor in budget smartphone

Noida-headquartered smartphone maker Xolo has introduced a mid-range phone – Q2100, featuring a fingerprint sensor. It also sports an IR Blaster, which works with Peel Smart Remote app to make the phone act as a universal remote. Priced at a sweet INR13,499 (US$219), Xolo Q2100 comes preloaded with the Android 4.4 KitKat.

The fingerprint sensor for smartphones is still evolving. So far, Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy are the only smartphone lines to integrate a fingerprint sensor for security and mobile payment. But these are priced much higher. With Q2100, Xolo has challenged both Apple and Samsung, as well as other handset makers like Micromax, Xiaomi, Spice, and Karbonn to launch a device at a similar price.

Xolo’s new Q2100 has a built-in fingerprint sensor placed at the back. One can set up to three fingers to unlock the smartphone. LastPass, a password manager app, can be configured with the sensor to gain single swipe access to the stored account passwords. However, the sensor does not support mobile payments.

Q2100 flaunts a 5.5-inch HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection against scratches. Powered by a quad-core 1.3 Ghz MediaTek processor, Q2100 also offers 1GB RAM, 8 megapixel rear camera, 2 megapixel front camera, 8 GB built-in storage, and 2800 mAh battery.
