Gojek to close several GoLife services

Indonesian tech giant Gojek confirmed that it’s discontinuing several services on its GoLife lifestyle platform.

An announcement on the GoLife app says that the platform will focus only on GoMassage (spa and massage) and GoClean (house cleaning) services. GoLaundry, GoDaily (water gallon on demand), and Services Marketplace will shut down on December 31, while GoGlam (makeup on demand) and GoFix (air conditioner repair) will stop on January 15, 2020. Car wash service GoAuto will be integrated with GoClean.

According to a report by the The Jakarta Post, GoLife vice president-in-charge Wesly Simatupang said that the business performance of most GoLife services had been stagnant, except for GoClean and GoMassage, which make up 90% of the total orders made on the GoLife platform.

“We realized that we need to review [GoLife services] to ensure continuous business growth in the long run. This decision is also to ensure that consumers can fully enjoy [the services] in the GoLife ecosystem,” Simatupang said.

He also said that the company will allow its partners who will be affected by the move to sign up for other Gojek services such as GoRide, GoCourier, GoPay, and GoTix.

“The welfare of our partners has been our top priority. We have communicated these changes to all those affected and have offered them opportunities to continue providing relevant, alternative services within or outside of the Gojek ecosystem,” a Gojek spokesperson told Tech in Asia.

The GoLife app was launched just two years ago to be a separate lifestyle platform from the Gojek app. At the time, the company said the separation of the business line would allow for a faster expansion as it continues to focus on its transportation and logistics services.

Update (December 18, 12:20 pm): This article has been updated to include statement from Gojek.
