India’s answer to Snapchat wants you and your buddies to talk Candidly

Candidly app

A Snapchat-like app made in India has received angel funding to help it grow. Candidly lets users share photos, doodle on them, and send voice messages or brief video clips. If you wish, these shared tidbits can self-destruct after just 10 seconds.

Candidly is currently in beta testing mode with its new Android app. It’s not disclosed how much the early-stage funding is worth or who it’s from.

Techcircle reports today that Candidly is founded by Indian serial entrepreneur Vinay Bharathwaj. Based out of Chennai and Bangalore right now, the startup plans a Silicon Valley office as part of its global expansion next year.

New features are being developed for Candidly, such as collaborating on shared photo albums, and a more immersive sharing of your moments – which sounds like the Facebook Timeline.

Aside from Snapchat, Candidly is up against more conventional messaging apps that are popular in India, such as WhatsApp, WeChat, Line, Nimbuzz, and Viber. WhatsApp has over 25 million active users in India.

Candidly is available for Android.
