In brief: Huawei sues the US over ‘unconstitutional’ ban on its equipment

• Huawei has confirmed that it’s suing the US government over the “unconstitutional” ban on its equipment and services following the passing of Section 889 of the National Defense Authorization Act into law last year.
• The law bans federal agencies and their contractors from procuring Huawei equipment and services. Guo Ping, Huawei’s rotating chairman, said that the US has repeatedly failed to produce any evidence supporting its restrictions on Huawei products, prompting the company to take legal action.
• Previously, the US government had accused Huawei’s chief financial officer, Sabrina Meng Wanzhou, of bank and wire fraud related to breaches of trade sanctions against Iran. Meng, who is fighting extradition, is also suing Canada’s government for procedural wrongs in her arrest.
