Meritnation bags $4M from Zomato-backer to boost Indian students’ performance

Meritnation, India’s online education company, announced it raised US$4 million from Zomato-backer Info Edge. The company has bagged a total of US$14 million across several rounds.
Meritnation offers live online classes for students from grade K-12 (kindergarten to 12th) in India and the Gulf. The self-study program is powered by 14,000 animated videos, unlimited tests, homework help forums, interactive exercises, and others.
It also provides test-prep solutions for entrance exams like Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT).
The startup’s platform tracks students’ progress and displays personalized recommendations. It offers reports to point out strengths and areas for improvement.
With fresh funding, the company plans to ramp up the technology and hire Indian Institute of Technology teachers. “We want to bring the most personalized learning experience to every student, delivered right to their homes,” says Pavan Chauhan, founder of Meritnation.
The seven-year-old startup has nine million registered users on its online platform. It also has offline centers in Chandigarh and Jaipur.
Meritnation competes with Tutorvista, which was acquired by British media firm Pearson.
