Tech in Asia Meetup: Connecting tech ecosystems in Bali, Jakarta, and Bandung

Indonesia’s tech scene is booming. Everyone in the country is optimistic about the future, and this translates quite simply to more startups and more funding in the archipelago. One of the keys to greater growth is teamwork. Is there a chance that such thing could happen more often between the key tech cities of Jakarta, Bandung, and Bali?

Jakarta, as the country’s business epicenter, may have the advantage of getting partnerships more easily. The startups there are a lot more mature, too, seeing that most follow up funding in Indonesia goes to urban startups. The neighboring city of Bandung, on the other hand, instills a strong sense of creativity in its tech founders.

Tech in Asia a will make its way to Bali, otherwise known as the Island of Gods, on January 29th. Besides drinking your coconut water on Kuta Beach, we also invite you to join our meetup to discuss the nature of different tech ecosystems in Jakarta (presented by Aulia Masna, co-founder of ADdiction) and neighboring city Bandung (presented by Yohan Totting, founder of ThinkRooms). In the big picture, we hope this can help strengthen the bond and partnerships between tech ecosystems in these three cities.

At the meetup, we will also hold 60-second open mic startup pitches in which 10 to 15 startups get to share their businesses with the crowd. The judging panel includes investors, who will give overall feedback on the pitches afterwards.

Speakers

Aulia Masna

Aulia is one of Indonesia’s most vocal and critical tech writers, having written for publications such as Macworld Magazine, The Jakarta Globe, e27, DailySocial, and most recently Wall Street Journal. His perspective on tech is deeply rooted in his belief in civil liberties. The issues he regularly covers include telecommunications, ecommerce, entrepreneurship, innovation, government regulations, policies, mobile ecosystems, and tech startups.

He is highly amused that he topped Tech in Asia’s list of tech journalists people must follow on Twitter in 2014.

Yohan Totting

Yohan is passionate about community building. He initiated Hackerspace Bandung, an open coworking space, with Reza Prabowo. He is the founder of ThinkRooms Studio, and with six other studios, he started FOWAB (Forum Web Anak Bandung), a creative web & tech community in Bandung.

He is also the mentor of Indigo Incubator startups at Bandung Digital Valley.
