Vahdam Teas has raised US$650,000 from the Mumbai Angels Network, Singapore Angel Netwrk, and Fireside Ventures. The company has been shipping Darjeeling and other Indian teas to 76 countries. It aims to use the funding to get a warehouse in its largest market, the United States.
By packaging and shipping directly from plantations, and eliminating middlemen, Vahdam aims to make fresh Indian tea available around the world. “It is when I joined my family bulk export business, I realized that most of the teas being sold were reaching the consumers across the world 12 months after harvest on average,” says Vahdam Teas founder Bala Sarda. Another startup doing something similar is TeaBox.
