MapMyIndia’s Don’t Panic App Will Solve Your iOS 6 Maps Woes (If You’re in India)

Apple’s new Maps app — and the lack of Google Maps in iOS 6 — has caused a lot of consternation everywhere. But if you’re an iOS user in India, MapMyIndia has some good news for you: Don’t Panic has launched.

Don’t Panic is a fully-featured mapping and directions app for iOS that offers excellent coverage of India. At $20, the nationwide app doesn’t come cheap (there are Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Delhi-only maps available at reduced prices), but the upside is that users can save a lot of money on data and roaming charges because Don’t Panic saves map data to your phone once it has been downloaded once so you aren’t downloading the same maps over and over again, racking up high data bills. Of course, this means that the map data takes up space on your phone, but that’s a sacrifice many users will probably be willing to make.

As you can see, using the app is going to be pretty simple for anyone who has ever used something similar before, and with Apple Maps disappointing nearly everywhere, now is the perfect time to be offering a strong local alternative. That and the appeal of a mapping app that doesn’t run up your data charges should make Don’t Panic a very strong contender in the Indian iOS market. If you’re based in India and worried about getting lost, it may be worth your time to check it out.
